  • “SUPER STAR” VOLUNTEER: You are comfortable and flexible with any role we need you to play.
  • PRE-RACE OFFICE HELP: You will join us at the GOTR office during the week leading up to the event to help with prep work including sorting t-shirts and race bibs, organizing materials, etc.
  • EARLY AM DAY OF SET UP: You will help with the setup of the event before any participants arrive. This role is best suited for those who are physically able to lift heavy objects and stand for an extended period of time.
  • TRAFFIC / COURSE CONTROL: You will assist with directing the flow of all vehicle and human traffic throughout the event.
  • GREETER: You will help welcome and direct participants to where they need to be. This is a good role for you if you are comfortable interacting directly with the public and can stand for long periods of time.
  • REGISTRATION: You will assist with 5K registration, including pre-registered runners and event day runners. Volunteers will also assist with the organization and breakdown of this area.
  • MERCHANDISE: You will assist with selling Girls on the Run merchandise. Volunteers will also assist with the organization and breakdown of this area. This volunteer opportunity is best suited for individuals over 18 years of age who have sales experience and/or are comfortable interacting directly with the public.

  • WATER STOP: You will set up, hand out water, and clean up this area after the girls have passed.
  • FINISH LINE: You will help with the set up and organization of the finish line including water, snacks, medals. You will also need to be able to direct traffic and keep all running areas safe for participants and clear of spectators.
  • POST EVENT BREAKDOWN: You will assist with the breakdown and clean up after the event. This will include transporting materials and lifting heavy objects. This role is best suited for those who are physically able to lift heavy objects and stand for an extended period of time.
  • COMMUNITY RUNNING BUDDIES: To have the opportunity to be a Community Running Buddy, volunteers must sign up to volunteer at the 5K. You will then be notified if a participant needs a buddy and you are a match.

True

The course for a 5K is 3.1 miles.

As a reminder, this is a fun, celebratory event for our participants and not a competitive race. While our fastest 5K participants will complete the course in 25 minutes, most cross the finish line in 30-50 minutes. Everyone who participates is encouraged to walk, roll, push, run or skip at their happy pace!

First, we understand that life happens, and circumstance might make it impossible to attend.

We strongly encourage that all participants attend and complete the 5K, as it is the goal that teams are preparing for all season long! It’s the ultimate opportunity to build confidence through accomplishment. Remember, this is the first 5K event for many – including coaches, participants, friends and family members. We are in it together!

Yes. Girls on the Run 5K events are for everyone! All participants can walk, run, push or roll safely and at their own happy pace. Designated parking spots are available.

A 5K Buddy is 16+ years of age and can be a parent/guardian, family member, neighbor, teacher, GOTR coach, or anyone else your participant would like to run with. 5K Buddies support their Girls on the Run participant by encouraging them to complete the 5K at their "happy pace."

If you’re having difficulty finding a 5K Buddy, please let your coaches know. Your child can be paired with a volunteer 5K Buddy. All volunteer 5K Buddies are vetted and background checked by GOTR Greater Boston.
